BC Pires addresses the issue of society’s marginalization of blacks and underscores the importance of remembering history. The unanswered question for me is how do we re-energise the collective to reduce black dependence on state support, social welfare and state funding?  Have black people really lost our spirit?  The quick answer is to single out black success and say no however a different picture emerges upon deeper analysis.  How do we begin the deep process of de-conditioning?  How do we foster that spirit of self determination?
